The Division of Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies (UGIS) supports six undergraduate and three graduate interdisciplinary degree programs, the Global Practice and Poverty Minor, and the Rotary International Peace Fellows through the International and Area Studies Program (IAS).
The goal of the IAS is to provide students with a set of skills and intellectual concepts which are reflective of the world's increasing complexity and globalized nature. The IAS takes advantage of the unique intellectual depth and diversity of the faculty and campus research initiatives by providing students the opportunity to focus on international problems and issues or area studies which either do not fit within a traditional discipline-focused department or transcend the traditional departmental intellectual framework. In addition, the IAS supplements the Berkeley student experience with many integrative and specialized courses not offered elsewhere.
